Organization Research
The Collective was founded in 2021 by three of Canada’s leading women’s health/hospital foundations, to address longstanding gaps in women’s health research and care.
The Women’s Health Collective Canada (WHCC) is a strategic alliance of leading women’s-health and hospital foundations across Canada. Its purpose is to advance equity in women’s health by uniting resources, research funding, education and advocacy.
Campaign Concept
The sunflower symbolize resilience and optimism. They capture the idea that people with endometriosis continue growing and pushing forward despite chronic pain. The softness of the flower contrasts with the harshness of symptoms, making it a gentle but powerful metaphor.
The Heatmaps of Pain is a concept that combines the symbolism of the sunflower with Heatmaps, A non clinical way to communicate pain and intensity.
Graphics and Visual Identity
Endometriosis pain is intense, unpredictable, and more importantly, invisible to most. This concept turns that invisible pain into visual waves of color and heat.
It was important to me to not use any kind of clinical Imagery, and the use of Heatmaps solved that issue. I applied those heatmaps in areas affected by endometriosis, as well as sunflowers.
The result was 3 illustrations making the use of vibrant colours, textured gradients with the sunflowers at the center.
Refinements
With the Illustrations done, the next step was to apply them to my deliverables using simple layouts.
This step was by far the longest since it required a lot of adjustments and Prototyping for the fundraising App, as well as a particular attention to detail for the Tri-fold brochure, for readability and aesthetic purposes.
Final Branding
The final project is a Beautiful and thoughtfull campaign that not only effectivelly raises awareness for endometriosis and its symptoms but also activelly prompts the viewer to join the fight and contribute to the fundraiser.
The Bright colour palette and meaningfull illustrations communicate its message with ease and respect, without stepping into either plain or playful territory.
It's an engaging and consistent campaign that I am very proud of, especially with the sunflower app prototype.
Key Takeaway
This project allowed me to dwell into a more personal topic and taught me how to keep a good balance between eye-catching visuals and respectful portrayal of serious topics.
